The Land and Environment Court has approved Boliden’s application for a new remediation method in Maurliden. The decision allows us to extend the life of mine at the Boliden Area by approximately ten years. The method involves using paste - a mixture of tailings, binding agents, and water - to backfill the open pits in Maurliden, and the underground mines in Renström and Kankberg, instead of storing it in the tailings storage facility at Hötjärn. This reduces the need for land to store future tailings, while the tailings sand is recycled and utilized as a resource. A major step forward for both the environment and our operations.

Boliden at Eurometaux's First Annual Conference. This week, Daniel Peltonen, President of Boliden Smelters, participated in a panel on circular economy alongside Sara Matthieu (MEP, Greens), Eva Maria Bille (EEB), Vincenzo A. Conforti), and Aurel Ciobanu-Dordea 🇪🇺 (EU COM, DG ENVI). Daniel emphasized the need for both increased recycling and responsible primary production, noting that each smelter is unique and a one-size-fits-all legislative approach and recycled content targets for metals would be impractical, if not impossible. "Setting a recycled content target for metals would only fulfill a regulatory purpose but would be an unfortunate from an economic and energy efficiency perspective." He also underlined that predictability is crucial for fostering industry investments in decarbonization. #EMAnnualConference25 #CircularEconomy #Recycling #Sustainability #Decarbonization #Eurometaux #Boliden

We have celebrated the successful launch of the cargo ship Tidan, owned by Erik Thun Group, Boliden's partner and the largest sea freight operator for concentrates. Mie Munck, Commercial Manager at Boliden Mines, was honored to be the godmother of the Tidan. The event took place at Shipyard Ferus Smit in Holland, where Mie christened the ship by smashing a bottle of champagne against the hull, wishing her safe voyages and fair winds. The new vessel Tidan, the fourth of six in the Lake Vänern Max series, focuses on sustainability with systems that optimize energy use and reduce emissions. The godmother's gift was donated to our charity foundation Bcause, a decision Mie highlighted in her speech. She emphasized the importance of Thun's stable, ice-class vessels for Boliden's operations in the Baltic Sea and their shared vision of minimizing energy consumption and reducing the environmental footprint. We aim to be the most climate-friendly metal supplier in the world.

Standing together for equality and inclusivity at work At Boliden, everyone has the right to feel welcomed, valued, respected, included and safe to be who they are. Creating an inclusive company culture and inclusive workplaces is something we do together at Boliden, every one of us, every day. June is the international month of celebrating pride and an opportunity to raise awareness and build knowledge about the LGBTQI+ concept and the living conditions of LGBTQI+ people. No one should be subjected to exclusion or any form of discrimination, harassment or victimization at their workplace. “Inclusive workplaces are characterized by a high level of psychological safety and a culture that encourages every individual to contribute with their insights and skills. A multitude of perspectives increases creativity and productivity as well as people engagement and wellbeing, which is what we want for all our employees and our company” says Åsa Jackson, Executive Vice President People and Sustainability.
