One thing this change accomplishes is that 3k hit will never happen again, instead your reputation will be kept in sync so you have no large surprises like this.

This is the second time it's happened to me. I lost another 1K or so a year back. I suppose I'll just have to suck it up again.

create code fences with backticks ` or tildes ~
