📊 The Council of Europe, together with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Republic of Moldova, organised a workshop aimed at strengthening national authorities' capacity to analyse and interpret data as part of the National Risk Assessment (NRA) on money laundering and terrorist financing. 🔍 The event follows the launch of Moldova’s NRA process earlier in 2025, using the Council of Europe’s methodology. Participants received technical guidance on risk analysis and interpretation methods, applying tools aligned with this approach. 📌 The training addressed predicate offences, high-risk subjects such as Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), sectoral vulnerabilities, and cross-border risks. A special focus was placed on enhancing the participants’ ability to translate quantitative and qualitative data into clear, well-founded risk narratives and scores to support strategic decision-making. To mark the 30th anniversary of the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the Council of Europe, Secretary General Alain Berset delivers a special video message honouring this milestone. “If today’s Moldova could speak to the Moldova of 1995, it would probably say: 'Look how far we’ve come.’*” says the Secretary General. “Today, elections are more transparent, courts more independent, anti-corruption frameworks are in place, journalists enjoy greater freedom and protection, and we are fighting disinformation, discrimination and hate speech. We are protecting the rights and dignity of all citizens, including the most vulnerable.” 📽️ Watch the full video below.

The third edition of the Money in Politics regional conference gathered 120+ participants from across Europe — including Ireland, Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, and the UK — for an in-depth dialogue on safeguarding electoral integrity in an increasingly digital world. This year’s focus: the impact of digital technologies on democratic processes and political finance. Discussions covered foreign interference, the role of cryptocurrencies, online disinformation, third-party donations, and emerging cross-border threats to elections. The conference concluded with a set of forward-looking recommendations addressed to public institutions, political parties, social media platforms, and civil society — aiming to reinforce transparency and accountability in political financing and digital campaigning, ahead of Moldova’s parliamentary elections in September 2025. A roundtable organised by the Council of Europe brought together key actors from the criminal justice system in the Republic of Moldova to discuss strengthening the application of non-custodial preventive measures, with a particular focus on provisional release on bail. ⚖️ The discussion was grounded in European standards, including Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights and the recommendations of the Committee of Ministers in the Șarban group of cases. 🔍 A key theme was the need for a behavioural and institutional shift in the approach to preventive measures.
