🚀 We are proud to share that Exergy has been awarded the contract for the revamping of the Ribeira Grande geothermal power plant on São Miguel Island, Azores, by EDA Renováveis. 🎉 On This Day – July 4, 1904 Did you know that modern geothermal electricity was born today? In the small village of Larderello, Italy, Prince Piero Ginori Conti lit up five light bulbs using only natural steam from the Earth. A groundbreaking experiment: a 10 kW dynamo, a piston engine, and a geothermal well. It was just the beginning of something that still today allows us to produce clean electricity. 🌍 Today, Larderello remains a global reference point for geothermal energy, producing around 10% of the world’s geothermal electricity. Italy is the eighth-largest producer worldwide, after the United States, Indonesia, the Philippines, Turkey, New Zealand, Kenya and Mexico. 🌱 At Exergy, we are proud to continue this improvement with our ORC technology. The event offered a wide-ranging and concrete vision of the path toward energy transition, highlighting the crucial role of industrial and energy engineering. ⚡ We were glad to contribute to the discussion with our ORC systems, supporting the shift to more efficient industrial processes. Great to have won #renewable #energy project of the year at the British Renewable Energy Awards last week for our #geothermal #electricity plant at United Downs in #Cornwall. It’s now 100% complete and undergoing hot commissioning. Thanks to all of the team and Exergy ORC who have been involved in this complex project to provide the first #geothermal #electricity in the #UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero
