𝑶𝒓𝒑𝒉𝒆𝒖𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝑮𝒂𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒍 𝑭𝒂𝒍𝒈𝒖𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒔 🎼🎼🎼 Gabriel Falguières was a French jeweller and goldsmith active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, recognised as a key figure in Parisian jewellery art known for his exquisite Art Nouveau designs. Working from his Paris studio, he created intricate pieces featuring organic forms, often combining gold, diamonds, pearls, and hardstones. His notable works include the Orpheus brooch and the Fécondité pendant, which highlight his mastery of naturalistic and sensual motifs. In the photo, designed as a carved hardstone profile of Orpheus as he floats down the River Hades, encased by a rose-cut diamond and textured gold stylised wave, enhanced by two sculpted gold floral motifs, mounted in gold, c. 1901, unsigned - but attributed to Gabriel Falguières. It has appeared on the market several times over the past 20 years. At Christie’s Magnificent Jewels, it was sold for around $50,000 in 2001. Then, in the 2011 bankruptcy sale of Ralph Esmerian’s jewels, followed by a Christie’s sale again in 2019 for $80,000. Education vs Experience??? 🫣

“Gu” (गु) means darkness or ignorance.  “Ru” (रु) means remover or dispeller. A Guru is one who dispels darkness and lights the path ahead. On this Guru Purnima, I pause to honour all those who have guided me with wisdom, with presence, and sometimes, with silence. Among them, one of the greatest teachers in my life has been the diamond itself. The diamond industry has seen its share of storms — and so have I. From observing the 2008 recession as a young family member not yet in the business, to navigating the supply disruptions of 2014–15, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the uncertainties of the last two years, each phase has taught me something invaluable. As my father, Govind Dholakia, often says: “Problem is progress.” Because when we encounter a problem, we grow. We reflect. We adapt. We evolve. Just as carbon becomes a diamond under pressure, challenges reveal our inner clarity and strength. My father has been my lifelong Guru, teaching me to walk with courage, patience, and compassion through every season. My mother, through her quiet strength and grace, reminds me to stay grounded and giving. And above all, I bow to God, whose invisible hand continues to guide my journey in ways I’m only beginning to understand. The world saw her creations on the red carpet, inspired by one of the most difficult periods in our time, the COVID-19 pandemic. 🪽 Elsa created a unique series within a collection titled Life, serving as a witness to its time. This series is composed of four winged brooches, each representing a stage of the pandemic. Aquamarine, emerald, Padparadscha sapphire, and garnet hold central roles in the contemplative and exploratory journey that Elsa Jin offers us. 🪽 Life 2020 symbolises the shock and severity of the pandemic, while Life 2021 speaks of regained dignity.
