On the 20th Anniversary of the #BrusselsForum, AER was proud to present our work on #inclusion to the 2025 Transatlantic Inclusion Leaders Network (TILN) of the German Marshall Fund of the United States. 🇪🇺🇺🇸 Secretary General Vania Freitas and Member Relations Coordinator Justin S. led a fruitful discussion with policymakers and civil society activists from both sides of the Atlantic on building communities across borders, strengthening trust with citizens, and the role of regions in European democracy. 💡 The Assembly is grateful to everyone at #GMFUS for their vital leadership in promoting our shared values in a fragile geopolitical context, and for being a leading platform for #transatlantic cooperation through gatherings like the Brussels Forum. 🤝

The discussions at the AER General Assembly and Maribor Innovation Forum highlighted the power of interregional cooperation in addressing common challenges. Throughout the sessions in Maribor, a wide range of topics central to the future of our regions were discussed. These included solidarity with Ukraine, agriculture and rural development, the bioeconomy, cohesion policy, sustainable tourism and decarbonisation. A milestone day at the AER General Assembly in Maribor. 🤝 We are pleased to welcome the new AER President Lukas MANDL and Executive Board, elected today by our member regions. Congratulations to the incoming leadership, and a sincere thank you to the outgoing President Albert Castellanos Maduell and Board for their dedication and service. 🌿 The General Assembly was also an opportunity to reflect on recent achievements and hear updates from AER’s Task Forces, Working Groups, EU-funded projects and flagship programmes such as Eurodyssey. These contributions showcased the strength and diversity of our network. 💡 In the afternoon, the AER Political Bureau, the political voice of the organisation, convened to discuss and adopt AER’s political priorities for 2025–2030. Thank you to all who contributed to the thoughtful and lively discussions that shaped our common direction for the years ahead.

✨ A strong start to the Maribor Innovation Forum and AER General Assembly! Today in Maribor, we kicked off a rich programme of dialogue, ideas, and collaboration focused on Europe’s competitiveness, innovation, and regional leadership. We began with a warm welcome from the Mayor of Maribor, Mr Arsenovič, setting the stage for a dynamic day. 💡 At the Political Roundtable, we heard compelling examples of how regions are shaping EU policies and driving local impact. 🔹 The Panel on Technological Innovation brought together regional leaders to explore how EU funds, smart policy, and local ecosystems are powering the digital and green transitions. 💡 The International Business Practices Roundtable featured inspiring stories from Krka, Radenska, Talum, Paradajz (Lušt), and Vojvodina – highlighting how innovation, adaptability, and cross-border cooperation fuel long-term success. 🔹The Eurodyssey Steering Committee Meeting created space for updates and forward planning of the vital AER mobility traineeship programme. 💡 The AER Working Group on Mental Health shared valuable insights into the challenges young people face in safeguarding their wellbeing, with a particular focus on the impact of social media. 🔹 We concluded the day with a special AER 40th Anniversary Reception – celebrating four decades of regional cooperation and leadership across Europe. A big thank you to all speakers and participants. We’re looking forward to another impactful day tomorrow!
