Comparte tus estrategias.

To maintain productivity during unexpected heatwaves in a construction project, it’s essential to prioritize worker safety and adapt practices to the challenging conditions. Start by adjusting work schedules to cooler hours, such as early mornings or late evenings, to avoid peak temperatures. Providing adequate hydration is critical—ensure water stations are accessible and consider offering electrolyte-enriched drinks to replace minerals lost through sweat. Establish shaded or air-conditioned rest areas close to work zones to give workers a place to recover, and implement cooling systems like portable fans or misting devices to help manage the heat.
-
To maintain productivity during a heatwave on a construction site, start work earlier to avoid the hottest part of the day. Make sure workers take regular water breaks to stay hydrated and provide shaded areas for rest. Rotate tasks to limit heat exposure for each person, and ensure everyone wears light, breathable clothing and hats for protection. Keep an eye out for signs of heat stress, such as dizziness or nausea, and use fans or cooling systems if available. Lastly, educate workers on heat safety to help them stay alert and healthy during extreme weather.
-
I have the experience on both situations: Natural heatwaves and heat produced by energy sources such as industrial electric furnaces. In the second case, working earlier to avoid the sun’s heat is not a partial solution since you find the same temperature in the workplace during 24 hr. In this case you can take some of the following measures, some already mentioned: - do temperatures vs resting time calculations chart with the help of Hygiene department, -make sure you have done medical tests to all workers, some might have restrictions or cannot do certain activities, -hydration is key, with electrolytes, -installed ventilation system and use specialized equipment with self breathing apparatus, -monitor temperatures and gases to adjust.
-
Working time Adjustments is the first strategy. Therefore, Early starts, Shorter shifts and prioritizing task can be done to take advantage of cooler morning temperature. Furthermore, providing shade and suitable ventilation is necessary. Moreover, using proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hats and sunglasses to protect against harmful UV rays and breathable clothing that allows for air circulation must be considered. Finally, Stay informed about weather forecasts and heat advisories to plan and regular check-ins with workers to assess their well-being and their situation.

Extreme weather, especially heatwaves, can challenge productivity on construction sites. At GPS Renewables, we take a proactive approach to ensure both safety and efficiency: ✔ Early Start & Smart Scheduling – Adjusting work hours to cooler parts of the day helps our teams stay productive while avoiding peak heat. ✔ Hydration & Cooling Breaks – Mandatory water breaks and shaded rest areas keep workers refreshed and focused. ✔ Task Rotation & PPE – Rotating duties prevents prolonged exposure, and using lightweight, breathable PPE enhances comfort. ✔ Monitoring & First Aid Preparedness – Keeping an eye on signs of heat stress and training teams for quick response ensures well-being. #ConstructionSafety #HeatwaveManagement #Productivity
