Today was a full day at CHIPcon 2025! In addition to a great technical agenda, the keynote "Semiconductor Outlook: Intersection of Company Leadership, Policy, and Innovation" was presented by M Morales, IDC. The IMAPS Silicon Valley Chapter had a great turnout at it's afternoon meeting. Participants networked and discussed plans to shape the future of this important chapter. The last session was a panel on "Chiplet vs Monolithic Architectures - Device Design and Packaging Considerations" was moderated by E. Jan Vardaman, TechSearch International. Panelists included M. Ashkan Seyedi, NVIDIA | Arvind Kumar, IBM | Jerry Tzou, AIchip | Ahmad Ansari, AMD ... And the day is now closing with a reception with exhibitors. The event continues July 9 and 10 in San Jose, CA ... https://lnkd.in/gs2KbRnA #Chiplets #HeterogeneousIntegration

  • ❓"Do you have a safety pin on you?" A question you might not ask often, but you HAVE asked it many times in your life, right? Because we've all been there - a zipper breaks, a shirt clasp busts open, your drawstring gets lost in your athletic shorts, you need to create a makeshift fishing hook, you require something small & pointy to remove leftover garlic from a press. The uses are endless! Our company - originally founded in 1919 as Universal Instruments & Metal Company - and its inventors at the time would be thrilled for the multi-faceted uses of such a simple product, and all that it's lead to. 😏 That's right: our origin story starts as the manufacturer of safety pins! Over time, the company discontinued safety pin production & made a transition to a machining & tool-and-die business. As the United States entered World War II, our tool-and-die expertise became critical, particularly with small arms manufacturers who relied on precision tooling to meet production demands. 🪖 At the same time, we became involved in what was a groundbreaking technological frontier: 👨✈️flight simulation. We partnered with Link Aviation in the development of mechanical flight simulators, which enabled the safe & cost-effective training of military pilots. By the early 1950s, electronics were beginning to reshape manufacturing - and Universal was ready to evolve. 🧠 When approached for a solution to manage the increasing volume of axial leaded components, we delivered, designing a “Taping Machine” that automated the process of taping & prepping these components for insertion into printed circuit boards. This development earned us our first patent 📜 & marked a turning point: the beginning of our entry into the electronics assembly equipment industry. It launched Universal into a new era of technological leadership that would define the decades to come. Today, our machines handle components much smaller than a standard safety pin. Some of the tiniest parts we work with measure just 0.25 × 0.125 mm, roughly the size of a grain of sand. 🔬Our equipment not only picks up these microscopic components but places them on circuit boards with a level of speed and dexterity that far surpasses the delicate motion of a human hand. It's fitting, then, that our very first product was a safety pin. The same care and control required to pierce cloth, paper, or rubber with a pin is mirrored in the precision force our machines apply during component placement today. What began as a tool for fastening fabric has evolved into advanced systems capable of assembling the most complex electronics in the world—with finesse that still honors our roots in mechanical craftsmanship. 🧰 So the next time you reach for a safety pin—whether to fix a wardrobe malfunction or fish out a clove of garlic🧄 —remember precision, versatility, and problem-solving are timeless. It’s how we started, & it’s how we continue to shape the future of manufacturing, one component at a time.
