At Omya, #ThinkingofTomorrow means recruiting and developing young talent. Our apprenticeship program offers high school students the opportunity to learn a profession in an international environment while completing their studies. Our apprentices gain a very broad understanding of our business through placements in six different departments, graduating with the chance to continue their career at Omya in one of our sites across 50 countries. Are you inspired by #innovation? We were certainly inspired today when more than 40 visionary founders visited our Egerkingen Innovation campus as part of the MassChallenge Switzerland event. Omya is a key partner of MassChallenge, a global startup accelerator dedicated to tackling the world’s most pressing sustainability challenges.   The event included dynamic elevator pitches from the startup businesses, which demonstrated the depth of creativity and drive that these entrepreneurs bring to their businesses. The presentations were followed by a very enjoyable networking session that gave everyone the chance to meet and share stories.   It's always exciting to engage with companies that align with our purpose and can help us drive impactful, future-focused projects. It's #WorldEnvironmentDay and the focus is on reducing plastic pollution. #DidYouKnow that calcium carbonate is used to replace polymer content in many plastics, from PVC windows and flooring tiles to packaging and even car parts. Because calcium carbonate is natural, renewable and has a low carbon footprint, it not only reduces the amount of plastic required in many applications, it also reduces carbon emissions. It is estimated that 31,000,000 mt eq. CO2 is saved annually directly by the replacement of polymers with calcium carbonate. #NEWS Omya Austria is a National Sustainability Award winner for 2025! Our Gummern mine was recognised by the National Minerals Association for its pioneering underground mining method, Omya Raise Mining (ORM) and its impact on workplace safety. This highly efficient method of extraction mines raw materials in large vertical stopes up to 160 meters high and 35 meters in diameter without any close human contact. We use an unmanned, remote-controlled drill rig, with the operator located in a climate-controlled container rather than on a drilling platform, as well as a remote-controlled wheel loader to protect operators from potential rock falls. What was once a dangerous and physically demanding job for miners has been transformed into an attractive and safe digital workplace. Our team of apprentices recently visited our Carrara plant in central Italy to learn about plant operations, the latest sustainable mining techniques and the importance of safe working practices. Working with industry experts to build knowledge and expertise is essential to the team’s development and the company’s future success. At #Omya, we recognize that success relies on effective collaboration across the business. A key priority for 2025 is identifying and breaking down organizational silos. To help our leaders address this, we have enhanced our existing training program to include this crucial topic. Last week, we held the first session of our new “Decision making & conflict resolution to break silos” training. Colleagues delved into strategies for enhancing cross-functional decision-making and building strong, productive relationships across the organization. In a world where teams span functions, regions, and time zones, #ThinkingofTomorrow means harnessing the power of diverse thinking to build success together.
