Titled “Mapping Dharug Nura from an Aerial Perspective”, each element of the piece reflects different aspects of Dharug Country and culture: 🔸 Heart shapes – Represent the beating heart of Dharug Country and interconnectedness. 🔸 Dots – Symbolise culture and heritage. 🔸 Lines – Reflect the region’s river systems, a source of life and journey. 🔸 Textured foundations – Represent Country itself. Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) will open to cargo and passenger services in the second half of 2026🌞, bringing with it exciting opportunities across our precinct, as well as the surrounding Bradfield City and Aerotropolis. This was the main topic of discussion at our Experience Centre recently, where we welcomed mentees from Western Sydney Women’s Jobs of the Future program for a networking event. ✈️ Joined by some of WSI’s valued partners – Qantas, Aces Group, ADCO Constructions and CPB Contractors – mentees had the chance to connect and gain insights into the future of work in Western Sydney. Siri, play 🎶"Let's Groove Tonight"🎶 ....Speaking of grooves, check out the ones on our runway! 😎 Western Sydney International Airport's airfield has been designed to enable efficiency from take off to landing and taxiing. The grooves you see here are an up-close look at our runway surface. It has been intricately grooved for two key reasons: (1) to achieve surface friction for aircraft landings and take offs, and (2) to enable optimal cross drainage. But this isn't the only groovy thing about our airfield. Some of WSI's other #EfficientRunwayFeatures include: - Built at a 45-degree angle, our rapid exit taxiways will allow aircraft to exit and enter the runway faster. - On average, it'll take around five minutes to taxi through WSI, which is a significantly shorter trip compared to other airports around the world. - Our runway is laid with asphalt, but at each end of the runway, we've also got concrete sections that will support aircraft when standing, taking off, landing, and turning.
