There are strong ethical, economical and ecological reasons to modernise animal welfare policy.

We’re calling on the EU’s decision makers to support an ambitious and timely proposal for all species on farms in 2026.

These laws must reflect citizen mandates, the evidence and consensus of the scientific community, and a firm and real commitment to end unnecessary animal suffering across the farming, transport, trade, science, and the environmental spaces.

Forward for Animals looks to expose the reality of animals on farms in the EU, debunk myths from the industry, and provide positive solutions for all stakeholders. We are working hand in hand with civil society for a substantial change for the animals, and for us all.

When we defend the rights of animals, we build a future that’s kinder, fairer and better for all.

A just society doesn’t leave anyone behind. It defends the vulnerable, upholds dignity, and sets standards that speak for those who can’t.

On farms across Europe, millions of animals are suffering from neglect and cruelty. The laws that protect them have not been thoroughly reviewed for over 40 years, leaving them not fit for purpose, and leaving sentient beings unprotected.

Updated legislation for animals on farms is expected in 2026, as promised by the Commissioner for Animal Welfare Oliver Várhelyi.

He committed to modernise existing EU animal welfare standards, and finally deliver on the promise to ban cages in farming.

It’s time to deliver and move #ForwardforAnimals

Millions of citizens are waiting for an ambitious animal welfare policy revision.

From the record breaking European Citizens’ Initiatives End the Cage Age and Fur Free Europe, to campaigns like Vote for Animals and No Animal Left Behind, Europeans are demanding that we make the right choices for those who have none.

There must be no more promises. We need action now, and we can achieve it if we work together.

Later this year, we'll be giving citizens the opportunity to voice their support for updated animal welfare laws and send a clear message to decision makers.

Dignity should be policy.

Kindness should be policy.

Compassion should be policy.

Safety should be policy.
