Hi Coryn,

I would definitely join AIGA. There are student memberships, and they host events with guest speakers and have a job board. I got to see an AIGA-sponsored presentation by Paul Rand not long before he died; I still have the event poster among my prized possessions.

There are probably marketing and advertising professional associations to check out too, if you're interested in working in those fields. Check out the Advertising Club of New York (https://www.theadvertisingclub[dot]org/). And New York Foundation for the Arts might offer some useful ideas too. You have such a wealth of opportunities. MAD and Cooper Hewitt might offer useful workshops, talks, and resources as well. Find a good local events calendar and subscribe to it so you don't miss anything!

Good luck!

Hello Coryn,

There are many ways to network as a aspiring graphic designer. A big platform to network for any field, is called LinkedIn. On this website, you may connect with fellow professors or peers in your desired field. You may ask them for advice by private messaging and also connect with other individuals outside your network. They also have pages you follow on design to stay up to date with the latest design trends. Its like "Instagram" but for professionals or those seeking to stand out to recruiters for a job. You may also attend workshops and social events about graphic design in NY to grow your network and meet professionals.

Best,
Gishan
